Wildcard Wednesday Fly Me To Paris by Helga Jensen

A slow and easy start to this book. I like that the story isn’t rushed and is slowly being formed. The paragraph on the back of this book doesn’t come close to mentioning the shocking circumstances that are revealed. I hate him. So here is to a new start. I love it. What a lovely boss, but there is the reality. I don’t want to put this book down, but it would be a very short book with no point to it if things didn’t work out for her how she would like it to. As I haven’t been through aeroplane ‘Cabin crew’ training, I don’t know if or how realistic this book is but I do know that I can see a lot of honesty in it and I love that Sully, Miracle on the Hudson film with Tom Hanks was mentioned as it is, I feel, relevant to this story. I love the team effort, it is so nice and off the scale. Very supportive. Although I have always had respect for ‘Cabin crew’ on the flights I have taken. I now have a new found next level respect and understanding for all the work they do on board. Thi...

Fun Friday Barbie in the Nutcracker (2001)

Barbie in the Nutcracker (2001) Yes it is August but in light of the Barbie movie having been released last month, I thought I would make this week Barbie week. Being and adult, when I show others that I have this DVD, their initial reaction is ‘Barbie!’ Yes, ok but I look at it like this, it is the story of the Nutcracker (Voiced by Kirby Morrow) and Barbie is playing the part of Clara. (voiced by Kelly Sheridan) Considering what I paid for this version, compared to if I had waited until the new one in 2018 came out on DVD or bought a real life ballet version, I think I got a good deal. This version does follow the Nutcracker story (Original by E.T.A. Hoffmann) really well with only a few slight changes, one example being the characters are looking for the Sugar Plum Princess, not the Sugar Plum Fairy. Changes to the original story are expected, as different versions of any film gets made, however, the Nutcracker is red, which I like because that is the colour I would ...

Wildcard Wednesday Barbie

The start is sadly, truthful, to then turn lighter to then quickly turn even darker. It does very seriously explain how Barbie came to be though. The message in this film for all children is a good strong one. Barbie could be anything so little girls could be the same. This film reminds me of a cross between Toy Story with Tom Hanks and Enchanted with Amy Adams. with toys/dolls coming to life and a fantasy world character travelling to the real world.  I like how this film captures mostly all types of child’s play, even sadly including the ‘Weird’ way. The sound track and choreography is brilliant throughout this film. Despite it being a film about dolls it was done in a very grown up way.  The speech about women is perfect and yes, somewhat truthfully realistic. Although things are changing now in the real world. There are some very funny parts in this film. One even breaking the, what is known as the, ‘4th wall’. Which brings me to the narration throughout this film w...

Fun Friday Dog Act Gone Wrong Chasing Ant BGT series 9

Dave walked out on to stage after preparing his act for 5 years. However Max the dog had other ideas and yes, what was his ‘Problem?’ with Ant. Although it was fun to watch Ant get chased by Max, I do feel sorry for Dave as he lost his chance to show their talents. I do like the fact that during the time Max was chasing Ant and when the person operating the camera had Max at their feet, afterwards the level of duty of care shown to the camera operator was exceptional. In that Ant asked more than once if they were ‘Ok’. luckily they were, so all good. All I can say is ‘Poor Dave and Max’. ‘Ant loves dogs’ and carried you back to the stage at one point. So what was your problem with him? Sadly we may never know. Thank you for reading  Sandra

Wildcard Wednesday Insidious The Red Door

Dalton (Ty Simpkins) is all grown up, a brilliant idea and update on Dalton’s family. Sadly there is a revelation at the beginning of the film that does become apparent as to why throughout the film. The college lesson and teacher (Hiam Abbass) is really good and I can see where she was coming from in Art. This film did make me react whether it be ‘Oh no’ or duck back in my chair. I loved it. The MRI scan scenes were all there and having had personally a MRI scan myself, we were not short changed on the experience and the sounds of it. The nervous memories came back to me and that is without the paranormal aspect on top. This film shows that you cannot and shouldn’t try to forget or bury the past , that it could be dangerous to do so. The ending to this film is a lovely sweet one in more ways than one. Overall brilliant. Thank you for reading  Sandra

Fun Friday The Great St. Trinian's Train Robbery

The Great St. Trinian’s Train Robbery When I was younger I watched this film and found it extremely funny, I have since found this film on DVD and purchased it. Although the gadgets and hair dryers are out dated, this film has stood the test of time. When you have an unruly school, a question you have to ask is “ wh ere do you house such a school?” The answer is Hamingwell Grange. The place is up for sale, so with help from a Government grant , and the head mistress, Amber Spottiswood (Dora Bryan) being friendly with the Minister, Sir Horace (Raymond Huntley) it is acquired. Little do they know however, that some train robbers have stashed the loot they stole in the basement. Now the school h as a new home , Amber has to assemble her team of questionable teaching staff, an ex con and a stripper amongst them, and chair of the governors, Flash Harry (George Cole) . We also have, what I can only describe as unusual school resources as well, including a betting shop...

Wildcard Wednesday The Thorn Birds

The Thorn Birds On the channel 5s soap Neighbours there was the story line that Paige got pregnant with Father Jack’s baby, Father Jack being a priest reminded me of The Thorn Birds starring Richard Chamberlain as Ralph De Bricassart and Rachel as Meggie Cleary. Ralph also being a priest but Meggie has his baby. Mary Carson (Barbara Stanwyck ) was a shrewd and scorned woman and sort her revenge on Father Ralph for not loving her as she loved him. Father Ralph used to visit the ranch, knowing she was a very wealthy woman, yet thinking she had no one to leave it to. That is until she invites her brother’s family to stay and run the ranch. It seems she paraded her family in front of Ralph and then left all her money the church when she passed away, leaving Ralph torn and ultimately tied to the Cleary family , as the church is now in charge of the ranch the Cleary family are and still can live there and run . He did have a choice but as he was a priest first the money went to the ...

Fun Friday Talking to the Dead by Harry Bingham

Book Review Warning spoilers Talking to the Dead by Harry Bingham Brendan Rattigan’s Fiona’s condition Cotard’s Business interests Syndrome Murder mother and daughter With a twist at the end Janet and April Mancini When reading this book this diagram came into my head . The diagram came to me as interwoven shapes as parts of the story are connected and the twist seemed to spiral off, hence these shapes and an arrow. You have the murder of the mother and daughter , Janet and April that starts the whole thing off and then it circles round through another investigation into Brendon’s bu...

Wildcard Wednesday Advanced Psychic Development by Becky Walsh

Advanced Psychic Development by Becky Walsh If you think you, know and/or want to develop your psychic skills then this is a very good book for you. It is no different to any other manual for any other profession. Yes, however, the wording is different, but you wouldn’t have the same wording in how to become a lawyer as you would in a childcare book. You would have the wording suitable to each profession and as I have said this no different. This is a ‘how to’ guide to becoming a psychic. Part one how to use grounding and the vibrations, also how the brain works in a psychic. Part two is all about how to tune into the spirits that come through and how your ‘spirit guide’ works. Part three talks about God, I think you have to your own judgement depending on your beliefs , however, t he part about removing blocks is useful. This is all clearly written and some of it is from the authors own experiences, which helps relate to it. Part four is for if you want to turn being a ps...
