Fun Friday Dark Echoes of the Past by Ramon Diaz Eterovic translated by Patrick Blaine - Easter Island holiday
As I start to review this book, whilst sitting at Santiago airport Chile on the way to Easter Island on holiday. It is interesting to read that the main character in this book also reviews books, although from what I read he doesn’t enjoy them as much as I am this one. It is already a slow paced but fascinating story.
An intriguing case to take on. It is nice he has at least work to do so quick after nothing.
I love this book. It is thoroughly written.
I don’t want to put this book down now, but be aware that due to the nature of this book there are written paragraphs with types of ‘Torture’ mentioned and described in them. Be prepared to read a lot about Chile’s past. It is mostly all bad.
I do love that a voice has been given to the cat, although sometimes it can get confusing that it is the cat. I still find it fun and amusing to read these parts despite some of the subjects being discussed.
I don’t like that there has been another tragedy. I don’t like the quick blunt questions about a possible murder. However, much of what happened needs to be solved.
A very political story.
I would like it if they do work together.
You have to have a good memory whilst reading this book.
I do have some theories as to what happened. This book does get and keeps you thinking.
It is amusing to read about him at the wedding.
Despite the tragedy and nature of this, I actually love this detective story and I will miss the characters in this book.
Santiago airport is surrounded by beautiful mountainous scenery. It has well stocked shops. Limited seating and be aware that the restaurants in the international terminal don’t deviate from their menu and one is QR code ordering only. There are limited tannoy announcements, mostly security ones. Security of your luggage is helped by a stand where you can have any luggage that needs to be checked in and unattended shrink wrapped in green, what I can only describe as strong cling film. Be aware that you have to check the board yourself so know some Spanish before you go. Once we got to the national terminal there was a popular food chain for a nice breakfast. Also again well stocked shops. Also because we were travelling on to Easter Island we had to have all the correct paperwork and had to go through a special check gate before security.
Easter Island, although we were originally told that we could buy our Island park ticket at the airport. We had to end up buying it from the town. The people are extremely helpful and you do need your Passport to be able to buy one. We booked a private tour with an English tour guide online before we went. It was a full day tour that took us to all the prominent places on the Island. Our tour guide was very informative, helpful and amazing. Wear sensible shoes, be prepared to walk up hills, steps and on uneven ground. Take your park ticket and Passport.
There are a lot of food and souvenir shops in Hanga Roa. some well stocked some we found it was potluck if they were open, as some are , it seems, hardly open.
Thank you for reading
Sandra
