Friday Fun Fawlty Towers made a good Advert
During an episode of Fawlty Towers Basil (John Cleese) has an issue with his car, he runs off out of sight of the camera and comes back with a tree branch and proceeds to hit his car.
This scene is well known as to how many people actually found it very funny. Sadly, I didn't find it as funny. However, when the Specsavers Advert came out and John Cleese as in Fawlty Towers has an issue with his car, runs off and comes back with a tree branch and proceeds to hit the wrong car, a Police car with it. It really works! It is funny, relevant and makes sense.
I do have a favourite scene in Fawlty Towers, now Manuel (Andrew Sachs) is portrayed as a foreigner who doesn’t speak or understand much of the English language. So when a Hotel guest requests some more ‘Toilet roll’ Manuel has trouble understanding that ‘Room 22’ requires toilet roll and for him to take some up to the room.
We next see Manuel with what we can assume 22 toilet rolls in his arms about to go up to room 22, he is stopped but this is funny because if Manuel hadn't been, as the guest wanted toilet roll, she would have walked into her bathroom and found that she certainly had the toilet roll she requested and lots of it, as a result this scene has depth.
Thank you for reading
