Mum's Monday The Railway Children by E. Nesbit

 A Magnet Classic Paperback 1988

At first this starts off, to me, poetically. It quickly turns grim, only to then remind me of the ‘Only Fools and Horses’ spin off Green Green Grass by John Sullivan, when the Boycie family arrived at their new home in the country, but this story looks worse. So much has happened and it is only the first chapter,

I don’t agree with what happened in chapter 2. I feel that there should have been some sort of punishment. What sort of message does it give to any young reader who this book is aimed at, overall? It is not a good example for/to some.

This is a quaint little story and I can see why it is so popular. Also the chapter names become relevant in the end, however, unusual they seem to begin with.

This book has a few thought provoking parts including ‘Perks Birthday’. I agree with the fact that this story points out that an act/action could be seen/taken/perceived in more than one way. This is a good life lesson, to be careful at some things/actions.

This also shows that some secrets have a habit of getting out somehow. I like that there are a few life lessons in this story. This is a very moral oriented book in some ways.

I like the heartfelt letter in chapter eleven. ‘Mount Everlasting’ is so amusing to read. I won’t say what I think she meant because I think we would all know. This is so sweet to read.

What a book. What an incredibly clever, extremely lovely ending. So brilliantly, perfectly amazingly written…………

Thank you for reading

Sandra
