Wildcard Wednesday The Secret of Crickley Hall TV series
Episode 1
I like where this 3 part series starts, right back as to why they moved to Crickley Hall. the TV version is slightly different to the book by James Herbert. However, this is to be expected in some cases and it doesn’t take away from how good it is. I want to say that the suspense is there but, to me, personally it is lighthearted strangely. It may be because as I read the book first, I know what to expect or the book is more intense than the series. I would personally recommend reading the book first. The series is just as brilliant as the book, even with the differences.
Episode 2
It is sad to hear what he asked Eve (Suranne Jones) as yes, she does would be the answer. I love the reference to The Shining by Stephen King. this is cleverly highlighted and amusing. I don’t agree, I believe all the answers are at Crickley Hall. I can see what they are trying to achieve, but I feel that it could be done in a slightly different, possibly better way. The script especially with what Lili Peel (Susan Lynch) said the impact was too much. Although, it was quick and it had to get the point across in the confines of the time restraints of the TV series. I feel they could have used another line/issue to create the same result. Well that was harsh, and despite initial reservations the Lili story line works. This is getting more sinister. Also what a liar, ‘No ghosts’ don’t believe him. I love how the past and present is all blurred into one/the scenes all interweaved.
Episode 3
Well that was close. The part about Cam (Elliot Kerley) is really devastating, more so watching it on the screen than reading it in the book. Well that was definitely different to the book, still really well done though and brilliant. What a lovely but tear jerking ending, beautiful.
