Wildcard Wednesday Murder They Hope

Warning Spoilers Episode one, A sinister start. This is so well thought out and timed. They also say that people have picked up a bargain at a ‘Car boot’ because people don’t realise the true value of things. This highlights this in a form of a rare rabbit of all things. This is fun yet not nice to watch. Oh, that was funny, the pitfalls of an elderly villain. I don’t like that being old is being played upon/exploited. I also don’t like how she is being treated and described. Oh no missed seeing her again, clearly not understanding the concept of ‘Watching her every move’. This is annoying but funny. I hope they get the money. The dress? That was close. And a great script with some good comebacks, who’d have thought an auction could be so dangerous? I can see the reason behind no one knowing who buys it. Oh no the worst, hindsight is a wonderful thing. And that was a weird ending. Episode two, this first highlights the issues of acting against real life drama, especially when it ...

Mum's Monday Gourmet Detective Mysteries Eat, Drink and Be Buried

First of all I love the outfits, especially the blue, but oh dear that was unexpected. Not the first time I have seen a similar scenario, like the one that comes to mind in the sitcom ‘Only Fools and Horses with David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst where they are Batman and Robin created by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely DC Comics. Why do I get the feeling this trip down memory lane as they say is not going to end well? This does put me on edge. Now the mystery begins. I did wonder why she wanted to know so much about old guns but it turns out the information received was very helpful after all. It is amusing that ‘Dad’ is along for the ride. At first I was suspicious but quickly changed my mind. I like the interactions in this part. It is also amusing to see Henry (Dylan Neal) not get on with horses, a small part but fun and a bit of lightheartedness to watch. How did I know what they were going to find. Luckily it is not as bad as I thought. Well that turned awkward. I have mixe...

Fun Friday Footloose

Footloose This film starts off with the iconic, easy dance along and catchy theme song of the same name as the film. It quickly turns to a quiet town where everyone is in church. Despite the reverend Rev. Shaw Moore (John Lithgow) is preaching it is good and clear to see that youngsters are going to be youngsters no matter what. It is worrying to see the danger that Ariel (Lori Singer) puts herself in with her friends. This keeps you on the edge of you seat and you have to wander whether she would be doing this if her dad wasn’t so restrictive in his attitude. This film shows how much music can make you feel good , everyone is dancing and having a good time . The shock is when Ariel’s dad, Rev Shaw Moore, turns up. The silence is deafening. Ren (Kevin Bacon) is a new-comer to the small town. He is used to reading books that are disagreeable to the town and he then turns up at school with his car radio playing loud music . He clearly has a lot to learn about the town. It is sad...

Wildcard Wednesday Calamity Jane

Calamity Jane (1953) This film is certainly a musical, it starts off on a fast paced musical note. Doris Day, who plays Calamity jane, her acting could be better or this film is just showing its age. I would not have initially picked Doris Day to play the role of Calamity Jane if this film was made now in 2018. When booking an act, it is important to know whether it is male or female, preferably before you advertise the act. It is amusing to see how they get over the dilemma. It looks like Calamity Jane is off to Chicago, but it also looks like her exaggerated lies are about to catch up with her. The m ission, well was almost accomplished. You can’t blame Calamity Jane; she can only go on what she sees and has been told. I do wander how it will all turn out, but this is good to keep you watching   It is lovely to see Katie Brown ( Allyn McLerie ) being given a chance. It seems the towns folk just want to be entertained and they like what they see and hear. It is also lo...

Mum's Monday Top Gun (1986)

Top Gun (1986) With the announcement of Top Gun 2, I thought I would look back at the first one. This film goes straight in with the action, as we see Lieutenant Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell (Tom Cruise) and his co-pilot Goose (Anthony Edwards) flying a Tomcat in a dog fight with 2 MIGS. Maverick manoeuvres the plane into a previously thought impossible position, upside down above 1 of the MIGS. Maverick and Goose, are pilots in the Navy and this should make it seem that Maverick is mature and responsible, but the opposite is true. Mavericks character comes across as immature, irresponsible and with not a care in the world (although he does, with little fuel go and help down a fellow pilot who has lost his nerve). His job is hanging by a thread, he is a good pilot even though he takes risks (a legacy from his late father) and likes doing a fly by passed the control towers whenever he gets the chance. After a stern talking to , Maverick and Goose are sent to a top naval trainin...

Fun Friday Toys

Toys by James Patterson and Neil McMahon This story is set in the future, in the year 2061. One thing that hasn’t changed is humour, only this time, era the jokes are all about humans and told by, what are called the ‘Elites’ in this futuristic book. Hays Baker and his wife Lizbeth are about to meet president of the United States of America Hughes Jacklin . Something is about to happen, Hays and Lizbeth work for the Agency of Change and are ‘Elites’ themselves, this is a quick read. The part mentioning about the increased level of the ocean and its effect on North America gives this book depth and makes it realistic sounding so far in the future. Having set this book I the future the authors can really use their imagination when it comes to the Toys they can present to the world, and they do, the Toys are on a much higher level than you would find nowadays, also a little controversial. Hays and Lizbeth don’t want their two daughters, April and Chloe playing with the special order...

Wildcard Wednesday One Of Our Dinosaurs is Missing

One of Our Dinosaurs is Missing Although this is a flashback film, a tale from the past told in modern times for this film. This film doesn’t stand the test of time. It is very much outdated in the twenty first century. ‘Lotus X’ sounds like it involves spies and the like. It is very much like a secret espionage film. This is cleverly done to draw you in. The setup of the film is well done, it is comedic and ridicules, why the second character had to also grab the pram? I am not sure. It is nice to see the nannies help Lord Southmere (Derek Nimmo ). It seems when some nannies are on a mission they are a formidable force to be reckoned with. It is strange to hear Lord Southmere describe himself as a ‘Business man’. This doesn’t make sense as it is believable. This is what makes the viewer of this film keep watching. The organisation of the nannies is genius it doesn’t last long though the nannies have children to look after. It is good to see as much as they like to help they ta...
