Mums Monday: The Unsinkable Molly Brown

The start of this film is, shall we say, silly. If they were trying to prove a point it certainly hammers it home. The point could have been made better. This film is very dated, but as it was first out in 1964 and now it is the year 2021, being out of date can be mostly overlooked. It is of its time.

It is sad that Molly (Debbie Reynolds) is being talked about and laughed at while she was there. The advice Molly’s father gives her is nice to hear. The scenery and the echoes are lovely to see and hear as well.

It is nice to see Mr Brown’s (Harve Presnell) hospitality, but not nice and a bit ungrateful of Molly. It is nice to see Molly being given a chance, fainting on her first encounter is not good though and is amusing but yes, sad to see. Her first song is good though.

As romance is blossoming, it is a strange way of going about it. It is sweet also though. As romance, courting and wooing goes it is lovely as to what Mr Brown did for Molly, he nailed it, well nearly, ‘The ring?’ is not the only problem it seems. I don’t like that it was quick and how it was done. It is nice that there is love between them, this is lovely, but funny to see.

It is great having a lot of money, but ‘what to do today?’. It is amusing to see that money has not changed Molly. It is sad to see that it gets lonely around the house. It shows that money cannot buy everything. It is sad to see the Browns snubbed. It is now lovely and amusing that they now have a friend. It is sad though that the planned party doesn’t go well.

Well Molly, with a little reminder to Mr Brown, is off to Europe. They say ‘Travels broadens the mind’. It is fun to watch the Browns minds being broadened. It is also nice to see Molly fitting in. it is sad to see that Mr Brown is not happy.

Now home it is nice to hear the compliments, and also Molly get one up on Mrs McGraw (Audrey Christie) this is amusing and lovely to watch. Molly has certainly made an impression on some influential people, plus someone else which along with Molly and Mrs McGraw in the film made me chuckle. Also what a nice surprise and another big compliment.

It is lovely that despite the changes, Molly hasn’t actually lost her roots, I can see how she was a people person. I don’t like when the fight breaks out. Those scenes are unnecessary. Ok, the gun is a bit over the top. I do love the script throughout. What I don’t, now like, is the ‘No’ parts though.

It is lovely to hear Molly realise the value of money against love, respect and society.

Yes, welcome home Molly Brown. The part with the Titanic is short, but although Molly was recognised worldwide because of her being on the ship, this film is about Molly and not the Titanic Atlantic crossing.

Overall, this film is a little cheesy in places, but it is not a bad film to watch of its time.

Thank you for reading
